ABHA Card Latest News & Updates — October 2026
October has been a busy month for India’s digital health mission. ABHA IDs have crossed 97.61 crore, your ABHA card can now live in Google Wallet, and a small-town story shared by Gujarat’s Chief Minister showed what the card actually changes in real life. There is also one important rule in the news — about Ayushman card e-KYC — that many people are confusing with ABHA. It is not the same thing, and this post clears that up.
Here is everything that matters, in one place.
1. ABHA IDs cross 97.61 crore — the 5-year journey
According to the latest Ministry of Health and Family Welfare update, operational ABHA IDs stood at 97.61 crore as of 17 September 2026. The growth over five years is remarkable:
| Year | ABHA accounts |
|---|---|
| 2021 | 14.7 crore |
| 2022 | 30.4 crore |
| 2023 | 50.6 crore |
| 2024 | 72.2 crore |
| 2025 | 84.5 crore |
| Sept 2026 | 97.61 crore |
Linked health records crossed 100 crore back in May 2026 and reached 119.95 crore by 17 September 2026 — note that one person can have multiple linked records. The network now includes 5.78 lakh verified health facilities and 11 lakh healthcare professionals.
What this means for you: ABHA is no longer an experiment — it is the backbone of India’s digital health system. More hospitals accepting it means your records follow you wherever you go. 2. ABHA card in Google Wallet — your health ID on your phone
Your ABHA card can now live in Google Wallet. The feature was announced by Google in partnership with Eka Care (an authorized ABHA ID issuer) and has been rolling out through 2025–2026.
Access is protected by your phone’s fingerprint, PIN, or passcode, so the card does not open without your permission.
How to check: look for an “Add to Google Wallet” option in your ABHA issuer’s app. Prefer the classic route? You can still download your ABHA card as a PDF.
3. Gujarat CM spotlights a real ABHA story (6 October 2026)
On 6 October 2026, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel shared the story of Adil Sodha from Keshod, Junagadh:
“Because of the ABHA Card, the worry of preserving old reports and papers at the hospital is now gone.”
The story resonated because it captures exactly what ABHA changes in real life — no more carrying folders of old reports to every hospital visit. Your medical history travels with your ABHA number.
What this means for you: if you still keep paper reports in a file at home, digitizing them into your ABHA-linked records is worth the effort. Read more about ABHA Card Benefits.
4. Ayushman card e-KYC now mandatory — read this carefully, it is NOT ABHA
Reported on 16 October 2026: e-KYC is now mandatory for the Ayushman (PM-JAY) card. Beneficiaries with outdated details must update them through the Ayushman app, or risk temporary suspension of the ₹5 lakh treatment benefit.
This rule is for the Ayushman/PM-JAY card. It does not apply to the ABHA card.
- ABHA card = digital health ID. No free treatment, no income limit, voluntary. OTP-based verification at signup.
- Ayushman (PM-JAY) card = free treatment up to ₹5 lakh/year for eligible families, with its own rules — now including e-KYC.

What these October updates mean for you — the short version
- ABHA is mainstream now (97.61 crore IDs) — if you have not got one, register here.
- Put it in Google Wallet for easy, secure access on your phone.
- Digitize old records — link them to your ABHA so every hospital visit starts with your full history.
- Don’t panic about the e-KYC news unless you hold an Ayushman/PM-JAY card — it has nothing to do with ABHA.
We will keep this series going every month, so check back for the November 2026 edition.
How many ABHA cards have been issued so far?
As of 17 September 2026, there are 97.61 crore operational ABHA IDs, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Linked health records have crossed 119.95 crore.
Can I keep my ABHA card in Google Wallet?
Yes — the feature has been rolling out through 2025–2026 via authorized issuers like Eka Care. Look for an “Add to Google Wallet” option in your ABHA issuer’s app; access is protected by your phone’s fingerprint, PIN, or passcode.
Kya Google Wallet me ABHA card rakhna safe hai?
Haan — wallet kholne ke liye aapke phone ka fingerprint, PIN ya passcode lagta hai, isliye card aapki permission ke bina nahi khulta.
Is e-KYC mandatory for the ABHA card too?
No. The October 2026 e-KYC mandate applies to the Ayushman (PM-JAY) card, not ABHA. ABHA creation remains voluntary with OTP-based verification at signup.
Does the ABHA card give free hospital treatment?
No. ABHA is only a digital health ID for storing and sharing records. Free treatment up to ₹5 lakh per year comes from the PM-JAY (Ayushman) scheme, which is separate — you can link the two if you are eligible.
